The Local Historical Society has announced the launch of a Historical Obituaries project aimed at preserving and sharing the life stories of past residents. This initiative seeks to document significant lives and contributions to the community, officials said.
The project will officially begin on January 15, 2026, at the society’s headquarters in downtown. Participants are encouraged to submit obituaries of family members or notable figures from the area. The society plans to compile these submissions into a published collection and online archive.
Local historians and volunteers will oversee the project, working to ensure each entry includes accurate historical context and personal anecdotes. The society will also host workshops to guide families on how to write obituaries that honor their loved ones.
This initiative builds upon previous efforts to document local history, such as the annual heritage festival, which showcases community stories and traditions. The project highlights the importance of preserving the legacies of individuals who have shaped the community over the years.
Residents who wish to contribute can visit the Historical Society’s website for additional details and submission guidelines. The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2026.
